"1949 Four Seasons" Norman Rockwell Calendar

by Nita

Unfortunately, I have no story. My grandfather
Graced the wall to right of his beautiful fireplace,
I learned as a young child to view and reflect upon Mr. Rockwell's great pictures which spoke volumes to my heart. It made my heart smile regardless of how early my grandmother woke me for breakfast!

I have a relative who contacted me asking questions and I have found no answers for her regarding her piece of art.

Mr. McDonald, I have enjoyed finding your generous provision of data; however, I still can not find anything for her regarding her print as follows:

She obviously has "GRANDPA AND ME FISHING"
Of which she said is copyrighted by Brown & Bigelow, Who commissioned his service of rendering a Calendar known as Four Seasons.

This is a signed piece which does not reflect a number. Also, she said the illustration
Is on very good textured paper.

The question she has is if you know of any of Norman Rockwell Collections of Original Orgin commissioned for Calendar(s) of which Copyright is retained by the Buyer?

One last thing is she said the odd thing is her picture Is embossed (raised), she believes it bears faint pencil lines in a few places.

The Copyright symbol is B & B, USA.

Does this sound like it could be worth her time to have this examined to see if this may hold any value which would warrant having a reputable appraiser?

Again, if you know of any displays of calendar collections?

From Keith:
Hi Nita,

Interesting questions you have.

My guess, and only a guess, is that your relative has a copy of that wonderful painting, Grandpa and Me Fishing. I have not gotten around to writing about that painting yet.

Without seeing the item in question, I can only guess, but my intuition tells me that an appraisal may be a waste of funds.

My best advice would be to take the item to a reputable art dealer and get a feel for its value or lack of. Then proceed (or not) from there.

Thanks for writing.
