You see, these isn't just one Norman Rockwell Museum. There are two very fine museums that specialize in Rockwell's work. Both operate with the Rockwell family's knowledge and blessings. So, which one? The choice is up to you! The Norman Rockwell Museum of MassachusettsLocated in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, this Norman Rockwell museum was founded in 1969. Stockbridge, Massachusetts was Rockwell's last home. Rockwell lived here the last 25 years of his life, moving here in 1953. In 1973, he established a trust to preserve his artistic legacy with the Stockbridge Historical Society, who founded this Museum. The Norman Rockwell Museum of VermontRutland, Vermont is the home of the next oldest museum, specializing in Norman Rockwell artwork.
Founded in 1976, this NR museum opened at the West Mountain Inn in West Arlington, Vermont. In 1978, the collection was moved to a more accessible location. The National Scouting MuseumThe National Boy Scout Museum in Irving, Texas features a year-round exhibit of Norman Rockwell artwork. National Museum of American IllustrationThe National Museum of American Illustration, located in Newport, Rhode Island, boasts the second largest collection of Rockwell original paintings in the world. In addition, it also includes the largest collections of J.C.Leyendecker and Maxfield Parrish, two of Rockwell's contemporaries. Wagnall's Memorial Foundation MuseumThe Wagnall's Memorial Foundation Museum in Lithopolis, Ohio has three original Rockwell paintings in its collection. See the review page for details. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and MuseumThe National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is an independent non-profit institution. The museum is located in Cooperstown, New York.Although the museum's focus is fostering an appreciation of baseball, two items in the collection are of special note for Rockwell fans. Two famous original Norman Rockwell paintings are featured in the museum's permanent collection. Both are, of course, baseball related. The paintings are Bottom of the Sixth and 100 Years of Baseball. Bottom of the Sixth is widely considered to be the most famous baseball painting in the world.
