Rockwell Museum of Western Art
Corning, New York
The Rockwell Museum of Western Art in Corning, New York features one early Norman Rockwell painting.
The Museum counts one original Norman Rockwell painting among its collection, The Buffalo Hunt from 1915. The Buffalo Hunt, a 20" x 32" oil on canvas painting, was first published as an illustration for a boys' novel, The Red Arrow in 1915. The novel was written by Elmer Russell.
The caption in the books reads "The spirit of the chase had seized him, and he rode recklessly into the great company of crowding buffaloes." Four illustrations were painted by Rockwell to illustrate the book.
The Museum also has many other paintings, sculptures (including The Cheyenne by Frederic Remington) and artifacts from Western life. I heartily recommend a trip to Corning and a visit to this Museum.
