Cousin Reginald Plays Tickly Bender

With this illustration, Norman Rockwell finally lets us see Reginald Claude Fitzhugh get the better of his country cousins.

In this winter scene, Reginald, his cousin Tubby Doolittle, Chuck Peterkin and Patsy the dog are playing on the ice. The game they are playing is called Tickly Bender. The object is to go out on the ice as far as you dare without falling through.

The ice has already cracked. Reginald and Patsy are running off the ice. They have no desire to get wet or cold. Chuck is still buckling his skates over his shoes. Chuck is laughing at Tubby.

Poor Tubby is far out enough on the ice that he will undoubtedly be wet and cold soon. The look on his face is priceless. He has dropped his makeshift hockey stick and is trying to back slowly but swiftly off the ice.

Slowly but swiftly?

Will Tubby make it .
