The Shaving Mug

by Elaine
(Tiffin, Ohio)

I have my father's and father-in-law's shaving mugs and brushes on display in my guest bathroom.

Also, a very good friend gave me a straight razor. The label on the straight razor says Croghan Cutlery Co. Fremont, Ohio, price $2.00.

A paper instructional sheath is enclosed showing how to use the razor and also includes the warranty. The warranty on the razor states it can be exchanged at any time if it does not shave easily and is returned in good condition. The razor is contained in 6 individual cases. Very interesting device.

These items mean a lot to me. I would love to have a print on Norman Rockwell's First Shave. This print would complete my shaving memorial display. This display brings so many memories of the men I knew. I remember them every time I look at their personal razors, mugs, and brushes.

Keith's Comments: Thank you, Elaine, for your contribution. I wish that I had an extra copy laying around, but, alas, no.

It would be so nice if someone would just republish these old paintings; I know there are more people just like you who would purchase prints of these old Norman Rockwell favorites.

However, let's not waste too much time trying to change things that are out of our control.

I found my copy of First Shave on eBay. This cover turns up at least twice a year on average.

I would suggest that you register at eBay and set up a saved search for:

Farm Fireside 1919

and check it at least once a week.

Expect to pay Fifty dollars, possibly more, depending on condition and bidding competition. You can even have eBay email you an alert when a new item that fits your search is listed.

Another tip to winning the auction: I use Auctionsniper (Auctionsniper.com) to bid at the last minute. I feel like this gets me a lower winning bid. This tool also keeps me from getting caught up in the heat of the moment and bidding more that I had planned. You may want to try that also. The first three snipes are free.

Best of luck to you, Elaine. Send me a photo of your Shaving Memorial when you have looking like you want it to look. I will post the photograph o his page.
